Before the Event

Any EECS student (or recent graduate) at Oregon State can submit a resume - even those who are unable to attend the event.

This event is a great opportunity to find out more about companies, what it's like to work there, what they look for in a job/intern candidate, etc. Visit our Virtual Booths for company details.

They can help sharpen your resume, improve your interviewing skills and even give you wardrobe tips. Visit our Career Services.

Having an online profile is just as important as having a hard copy of your resume. (You should have both!)

The Engineering your Future offers a variety of tools and resources designed to enhance various aspects of student life.

  1. For help with sharpening your resume, wardrobe selection, and job-search strategies, visit the College of Engineering Career Development Center.
  2. Visit the Virtual Booths for each company you register for..
  3. All Oregon State CS students are invited to upload a resume for inclusion in the EECS Resume Book.
    • Even if you cannot attend Networking Night, you can still upload a resume.
    • Submitting a file to the resume book does not register you for the event.

The Day of the Event

  • Dress in business casual attire.

  • Prepare an elevator pitch

  • Look at a map of campus and make travel/parking arrangements if necessary

  • Keep a list of the people at the event whom you would like to follow up with.
  • During the event, some organizations will ask if you’ve already applied to openings on their company website. A few may offer a specific link with instructions on how to apply.
  • Ask for advice. Here are some ideas: Do they have any advice for helping new hires succeed? What is the best way to find a mentor? What surprised you most about your career?
  • If a presenter shares a link or a personal email, take note of it.
  • Do NOT leave early. The organizations attending this event are expecting to see you.

  • Follow up with the industry reps on LinkedIn, thanking them for their presentation. If you applied for an opening, mention which position you applied for.
  • Never ask a recruiter to find you a job. That's not their job.
  • If you are selected for a phone screen or an interview, come prepared. If you cannot make your appointment, ask to reschedule.
