EECS Faculty macOS Printing

Prerequisites:

  • Apple computer running Macintosh OS X version 10.5.3 or above
  • Attached to the EECS network or OSU_Access/Secure wireless network
  • Have an OSU EECS/ENGR computing account

Instructions:

  • From System Preferences, open "Print & Fax"
  • In the lower right, click the "+" button.
  • With your mouse pointer positioned to the right of 'More Printers', hold down the 'control' key on your keyboard and press your mouse button. Select 'Customize Toolbar...'.
  • Drag the 'Advanced' button up into your Toolbar and position it to the Right of 'More Printers'.
  • Now click the 'Advanced' button.
  • Under 'Type' select:
       Windows printer via spoolss
  • Under 'Device' leave it at 'Another Device'.
  • Note: You will need the printer name and printer model to proceed.
  • For 'URL' enter:
       smb://engrprn.engr.oregonstate.edu/printername
  • For 'printername' enter the name of the printer (ie KEC 2048 as an example).
  • Under 'Print Using' select the 'HP M651' (for most of our printers), specify that it has a Duplex Unit installed.

  • Open your document to print, and select the newly created printer from above.
  • Click 'print'.
  • You'll be prompted for a username/password [1]. Enter:
       Name: username@oregonstate.edu
       Password: Your ONID password
    (and click to save the password if you want to).
  • The End.

Footnotes

  • [1] - this is the password you would use to log in to a UNIX or Windows computer on the EECS network.
  • [2] - printername refers to the particular printer your are printing to. list of available printers can be found here.
