What does “equivalent” mean?
4-year U.S. bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- If your bachelor’s degree is from another country as long as you have the equivalent to a U.S 4-year bachelor’s degree you are eligible to apply for the program. Please consult with International Admissions to ensure you have an equivalent degree: 541-737-5719 intladmit@oregonstate.edu.
- If you have a degree from the U.S. but it was a professional program such as a BPharm, BVsc, MBBS, MD, DVM, DPharm, and you did NOT earn a bachelor’s degree en route, you will apply as a first time bachelor’s student.
Minimum 2.75 GPA or equivalent
- If your university did not provide a cumulative GPA or your grading scale was different than a U.S. 4.0 scale, the admissions committee will review the grades you received in the given grading scale to calculate an equivalent U.S. GPA on a 4.0-scale.
- If your undergraduate GPA is below a 2.75 but you completed further undergraduate or graduate work since earning your bachelor’s, the GPA from those subsequent degrees will be considered when making an admission decision.
WR 121 or equivalent
- Check the Oregon State Transfer Course Search tool to see if the courses you took are considered equivalent to WR 121. If your course comes up as WR 121 here at Oregon State, then it is equivalent. If when using the tool your class comes up as WR LDT or WR UDT, then the admissions committee will compare the course description of the course you took with WR 121 here at Oregon State to determine if it is equivalent. If when using the tool your course comes up as NAT, that means the course does not count as equivalent.
- If you have earned the equivalent to a U.S. Master’s degree or higher then you meet the writing requirement.
- If your university didn’t have one particular writing course, but had writing as a general education requirement embedded into certain writing intensive courses, that also counts for the writing requirement.
COMM 111 or COMM 114 or equivalent
- Check the Oregon State Transfer Course Search tool to see if the courses you took are considered equivalent to COMM 111 or COMM 114. If your course comes up as COMM 111 or COMM 114 here at Oregon State, then it is equivalent. If when using the tool your class comes up as COMM LDT or COMM UDT, then the admissions committee will compare the course description of the course you took with COMM 111/114 here at Oregon State to determine if it is equivalent. If when using the tool your course comes up as NAT, that means the course does not count as equivalent.
- If you have earned the equivalent to a U.S. Master’s degree or higher then you meet the communication requirement.
- If your university didn’t have one particular communication course but had communication as a general education requirement embedded into certain courses that will also count for the communication requirement.
- If you took a course that had public speaking and/or argumentation components, that may also count. The committee will review the course description to determine its equivalency.
MTH 111, MTH 112, MTH 241, MTH 245, MTH 251 or MTH 252 or equivalent
- Check the Oregon State Transfer Course Search tool to see if the courses you took are considered equivalent to MTH 111/112//241/245/251/252. If your course comes up as one of those math courses here at Oregon State, then it is equivalent. If when using the tool your class comes up as MTH LDT or MTH UDT, then the admissions committee will compare the course description of the course you took with MTH 111/112//241/245/251/252 here at Oregon State to determine if it is equivalent. If when using the tool your course comes up as NAT, that means the course does not count as equivalent.
- If you took the AP Calculus exam and received a score of 3 or higher, that will satisfy the math requirement. Please have your official AP scores sent to the Office of Admissions prior to the deadline to apply.
