Lab Access Overview: Instructional Labs

Mission 

The Oregon State University School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing lab facilities present some of the latest technology and equipment available to students, faculty and staff to utilize for class projects or research-related activities. We are rigorous in our efforts to provide a safe and productive environment for all lab users.   

Lab access overview

Completion of lab safety training is required to access some labs, please read the table below for details. Following safety guidelines is required at all times, including:

  • Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Wear appropriate attire (long hair tied back, close-toed shoes, no jewelry or headphones)
  • Never work with power tools alone (other students or staff must be present)

Lean Manufacturing and Process Improvement Lab

Machining & Product Realization Lab
(Rogers 118)
M-F, 8am – 5 pm; extended hours as posted Completion of ME 250 or equivalent Wear qualification badges, PPE and safety attire Safety glasses. Some machines will require: hearing protection, disposable dust masks, leather gloves (See posted PPE signs for equipment/activity related required PPE)
Manufacturing Engineering Educational Lab (MEEL)

Materials Characterization Laboratory

Mechanical Testing Instructional Lab

M-F, 8 am - 5 pm for general use. Special project or research use can be arranged. Training on specific equipment use by Mech/Mats faculty permits access without supervision. Through faculty or key approval for longer term project needs (case-by-case basis) Safety goggles available in lab and required for use; high temperature gloves for oven work
Metallography Laboratory

M-F, 8 am -5 pm for limited general use; special project or research use can be arranged. Training by Mech/Mats Faculty on equipment use and chemical safety is required and permits access without supervision. With faculty or through key approval by faculty for longer term project needs (case-by-case basis)  Safety goggles available in lab and required for use, protective gloves and apron for chemical work.)
Robotics Education Lab
