Commercialization

Do you wonder about the commercial value of your research work? Find out for yourself! COE Students and Faculty are encouraged to pursue commercialization of research products.

OSU provides resources to estimate commercial value and societal impact of your research product:

Funding Resources For Advancing Research Impact

  • VentureWell: student teams validate technology commercial opportunity (requires Faculty principal investigator)
  • NSF I-Corps: Faculty-Student-Mentor teams develop commercialization strategy. Proposals are accepted any time with prior invitation by NSF I-Corps Program Officer.
  • NSF Partnerships for Innovation grants: perform translational research and technology development, catalyze partnerships and accelerate the transition of discoveries from the laboratory to the marketplace for societal benefit of NSF funded basic/applied research.
  • Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program: funds small business and university collaborative R&D with potential for commercialization.
  • Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program: funds small business R&D with potential for commercialization.

You can talk directly with Program Managers at federal agencies about the fit of your invention/research with SBIR/STTR. Here is how to prepare for the conversation.
