Devising and Filing a Program of Study

All MIME graduate students must develop an official program of study and file it with the OSU Graduate School using the Grad School's digital program of study (DPoS) tool instead of a paper form. When logging into the DPoS system, please use the "OSU Login" button.

The contents of your program of study must fulfill all coursework and credit requirements of your program in a coherently sequenced way. The MIME Graduate Advisor and your major professor can advise and assist you in preparing this document, but you are responsible for completing and filing it. Before developing your POS, be sure to transfer any graduate-level coursework from previous institutions.

Master's Students

  • Approval process: All program of study development and approval happens within the DPoS tool and DocuSign. However, it is important to note that programs will be returned to students if they are not accompanied by an ethical research training certificate of completion. Upon submitting your program of study through the DPoS system, the form will be routed through DocuSign first to you to sign and attach a copy of your ethical research training certificate of completion using the paperclip icon next to your signature block. Then DocuSign will route the program of study to be checked by the MIME Graduate Advisor. If everything is in order, the POS will be routed, still via DocuSign, to your major professor then your committee members for their signatures. Finally, the program will be routed to your program director or the MIME Associate Head for Graduate Programs for program-level approval before being forwarded on your behalf to the Graduate School for final submission.
  • Filing deadline: Before completing 18 credits.

Ph.D. Students

  • Approval process: After developing a doctoral program of study using the DPoS tool, you should generate a draft of it using the DPoS "preview" button. Present your draft program of study to your graduate committee at your Doctoral Program Meeting. After all of your committee members have agreed that the draft program is ready for submission, you should return to the DPoS system and submit the form for approval. The form will be routed through DocuSign to you first to sign and attach a copy of your ethical research training certificate of completion using the paperclip icon next to your signature block.
  • Filing deadline: Before completing 2 terms (if you already have a master's degree) or 5 terms (if you do not have a master's).
