Transfer Students

Transfer Course Equivalencies

Transferring credits to OSU from other U.S. Institutions is a two-tiered process. OSU Office of Admissions is the first step in the articulation process. They will evaluate student transcripts and decide if OSU will accept the credit or not. Accepted transfer credit can be noted in MyDegrees one of two ways: direct equivalents or as LDT/UDT classes. Credits that appear at the bottom of a student’s MyDegrees report with the prefix NAT and the numbers 000 (NAT 000) were not accepted by OSU.

Accepted transfer credits can be noted in MyDegrees in one of two following ways:

Once the Office of Admissions has made its decisions, the departments can then review LDT or UDT transfer credit to see if it might be directly applied to a student’s specific degree requirements. EECS Academic Advisors will review student transcripts for possible equivalencies to lower division major requirements. This is most frequently done in connection with START orientation.

  • Students will need to provide syllabi for classes that transfer in as LDT or UDT to determine whether they can satisfy degree requirements.
  • Syllabi must originate within two years of the student taking the class and the hosting university should be easily identifiable.
  • Syllabi reviews can take an average of four weeks to complete and students will be notified of results.

School of EECS Restriction Override Request Form - The registration system does not read LDT or UDT classes as prerequisites. This form can be used to request overrides for classes with prerequisites that are indirect transfers.

Transfer Student Information

Thank you for your interest in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science! Prospective students can explore the different EECS Academic Programs at https://eecs.oregonstate.edu/academic-programs. If you have already decided on your EECS Academic Program and would like to apply for admission, please visit OSU Admissions at https://admissions.oregonstate.edu/ to begin your application.

Transfer students can find more information about their application journey at https://transfer.oregonstate.edu/. The Transfer Course Search Tool is a great tool for transfer students if they want an idea of how their prior coursework will come over to OSU. Please keep in mind, that nothing can be officially evaluated for transfer or degree applicability until a prospective student is accepted at OSU.

Please see more information about transferring credit to OSU in the Additional Resources section.

For more information, please contact EECSTransfer@oregonstate.edu.

All incoming students are required to take the ALEKS Placement Assessment. Even if the student has earned college-level credit for a math class through a community college, CLEP, AP, or IB exam, the student will still take the ALEKS Math Placement Assessment. Your ALEKS score will not lower your placement if you have previous college credits. The ALEKS score can only improve your math placement.

With the exception of OSU alum, transfer credits are not automatically articulated and posted to a student’s MyDegrees report. Postbacc students can fill out an Online CS Postbacc Transfer Coursework Request Form to have their Computer Science coursework evaluated after they have been admitted to OSU. Once the EECS Academic Advisor has determined whether or not the class is equivalent and has verified the official transcript has been submitted to OSU, the EECS Academic Advisor will then request the credits be articulated in the student’s MyDegrees record.

Postbacc Academic Residency Requirement: A minimum of 45 credits must be completed while the student is in academic residence at OSU. "Academic Residence" is defined as OSU courses taken by a degree-seeking student of OSU.

Frequently Asked Questions

With the exception of OSU alum, transfer credits are not automatically articulated and posted to a student’s MyDegrees report. As part of their START orientation, these students can fill out an Online CS Postbacc Transfer Coursework Request Form to have their coursework evaluated prior to their Group Registration session. Once the EECS Academic Advisor has determined whether or not the course is equivalent, they will notify the student to send an official transcript to OSU Admissions. The EECS Academic Advisor then requests the credits be articulated in the student’s MyDegrees record.

All credits (foreign and domestic) earned by undergraduate international students are articulated through the Office of International Admissions. The Office of International Admissions performs the same function that the OSU Office of Admissions does for domestic students. They will review credits first to determine if OSU will accept the credit and how to articulate that credit into MyDegrees. Once all of the student’s translated official transcripts and documents are turned in, they will be placed in the queue to have their transfer coursework officially articulated. This process can take some time so patience is greatly appreciated. Contact International Admissions for questions at intladmit@oregonstate.edu.

Students can review how their Oregon Associates degree will transfer to OSU at the Undergraduate Admissions Transfer Credit Options website.

Once all official transcripts are turned in, students will be placed in the queue to have their transfer coursework officially articulated and will be notified in the Beaver Basecamp portal when the report is ready for review. This process can take some time, so patience is greatly appreciated.

Some courses in the EECS majors double count as major requirements that also satisfy bacc core requirements. Math, writing, and communication courses are common major courses that can double count as bacc core requirements. The Transfer Credit Petition for Bacc Core can be used to request an LDT or UDT course be applied to a bacc core requirement. An EECS Academic Advisor can help a student determine if a transfer course that fulfills a bacc core requirement can also be applied to a major requirement.
