Students can seek out internships by contacting companies directly, or by applying to an internship program such as MECOP, CASS, or the CreateIT Collaboratory. The Oregon State Career Development Center assists students and alumni in finding a job.
Events held in October and February offer opportunities for students seeking internships to network with company representatives.
October
- October Networking Night: For EECS students to interact with industry representatives, learn about employment options and build their professional network.
- Fall Engineering Career Fair: Organized by Career Services for all engineering students, held the day after Networking Night.
February
- February Networking Night: For EECS students to interact with industry representatives, learn about employment options and build their professional network.
- February Career Fair: Organized by the Oregon State Career Development Center, this event takes place the day after the Industry Reception and is targeted at engineering majors.
Internship Programs
MECOP
Students in the MECOP program will be entered into a pool of students for industry members to pick draft style. Students in the program typically spend an extra year in school to make up the two terms missed during their internships.
- Two 6-month full time internships
- 1st Spring & Summer Term of junior year
- 2nd Summer & Fall Term after senior design.
Many of our students end up at companies such as ON Semiconductor, Intel, Daimler and Garmin.
During your internship you will have a mentor to guide you through the internship and conduct performance reviews at the midpoint and end of each internship. At the end of your internship, you will also put together a summary presentation to give to the company and to future MECOP students. Finally, a report is also required at the end of each internship to detail what you did for the company and what you have learned.
Students typically apply to MECOP in the Spring Term of their sophomore year at the same time as they apply to Pro School.

Positions include: developer, community systems administrator, systems development engineer, test engineer
CreateIT Collaboratory
Interns work in directly with industry and Oregon State clients to develop a prototype device. Unlike other internships, students craft the vision of the project. Students are hired to work on a specific project in small, interdisciplinary teams. The client provides the basic idea and the students design the solution including evaluating the market and existing technology, coming up with the best approach and building the prototype. Students leverage their own excitement, Oregon State’s technical excellence, and industry guidance to create things that have never been seen before. You can see examples on the CreateIT Collaboratory webpage. Clients include Intel, Tektronix, Texas Instruments, the Utah Ballroom Dance Company and the Oregon State Music Department.
- 10 hours a week (on average) for 30 weeks
- Includes travel to industry sites
CreateIt Collaboratory interns are top choices for industry partners to employ in summer internship positions at industry sites.
