This graduate option within the Mechanical Engineering (ME) graduate major distinguishes an area of interdisciplinary specialization, Renewable Energy (RE).
Renewable Energy is inherently interdisciplinary, so is offered only as a secondary option within ME. The RE secondary option in ME requires students to select four courses from across ME's five primary graduate options and then choose from a set of courses which equip students to understand the underlying physical phenomena governing renewable energy technologies and overarching themes in US energy policy pertaining to renewables.
Students wishing to declare the ME Renewable Energy (RE) graduate option must first fulfill core mechanical engineering requirements in one of two ways:
- Declare an interdisciplinary option in mechanical engineering, or
- Fulfill the requirements of one of the five ME Primary Options.
