Dr. Munk is an Assistant Professor in Nuclear Science and Engineering at Oregon State University. She has been at OSU since 2024.
Dr. Munk's work lies at the intersection of reactor physics, radiation transport, and scientific computing. She is interested in computational methods for radiation transport, hybrid methods for neutral particle simulation, Monte Carlo methods, reactor physics, reactor physics, data visualization, energy policy, fuel cycle modeling and analysis, scientific computing, and open science.
Before coming to OSU, Dr. Munk served as a research scientist at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign leading the Advanced Reactors and Fuel Cycles group from 2021 to 2024. Before that, she was a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Data Exploration Lab at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at UIUC. There, she worked on developing scalable tools for data analysis and visualization for multidimensional data. She earned her PhD in Nuclear Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2017 and her BS in Nuclear Engineering from Oregon State University in 2011.
In addition to her work in nuclear engineering, Madicken is an active participant in the SciPy and Software Carpentries communities, where she works to make computing accessible to users of all levels.
