O. Burkan Isgor is a Professor of Civil Engineering and Materials Science at Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon. Dr. Isgor received his engineering degree from Bogazici University (formerly Robert College) in 1995 and completed his masters and doctoral studies at Carleton University in 1997 and 2001, respectively. After working as a finite element software developer of engineering applications, he became a faculty member in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carleton University in 2003. He has been teaching and conducting research at Oregon State University since 2012.
Dr. Isgor’s research interests include materials science of cement and concrete, corrosion, electrochemistry, surface science, computational materials science, and non-destructive model-assisted testing of materials and structures. The ultimate goal of his research is to develop integrated numerical and sensory tools for infrastructure owners and operators so that they can better evaluate the state of their assets and make informed decisions on their future. These tools help engineers manage infrastructure by allowing them to schedule maintenance, rehabilitation and replacement operations more efficiently and accurately so that their assets will be resilient against extreme conditions imposed by multiple sources of hazard. Dr. Isgor is a Fellow of Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) and American Concrete Institute (ACI). A Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, Dr. Isgor served as the Vice President of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) between 2009 and 2011 and was in charge of the technical divisions of the Society. He was also the Chair of the ACI 222 (Corrosion of Metals) Committee between 2017 and 2023. Dr. Isgor is currently active in a number of professional societies including ACI, CSCE, and the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) and servers as an associate editor of a number of journals.
