
After graduation, Roger Gohrband spent three years in the U.S. Army, including 14 months in Korea, and he was awarded a Bronze Star and Air Medal for meritorious service. He received an MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1956. He began a 30-year career at Dow Chemical, moving to Midland, Michigan in 1966 and later becoming manager of Dow USA Purchasing, Dow USA Planning, and general manager of the Inorganic Chemicals Department.
Gohrband retired in 1986 after five years as Dow’s director of corporate planning and business development. Since then, he has helped lead renewal of Midland County’s waterfront and downtown areas. He was elected to the Midland City Council three times and served a year as mayor. He is a past president of the United Way of Midland County, Midland Rotary Club, and Midland Area Community Foundation. He also served as treasurer for the Midland Center for the Arts and as vice chair of the MBS International Airport Commission.
Currently Gohrband is chairman of the Midland-Handa (Japan) Sister City Committee, and serves on the Mid-Michigan Medical Center planning committee.
