Biography

Robert Alton received a BSME in 1964. He is the recently retired Vice President of capital planning for Fort James Corporation. He has been an engineering leader in pulp and paper for many years, having started with James River Corporation more than 35 years ago. Beginning as a plant engineer's assistant in the early 1960s, Alton was progressively promoted to Senior Engineer, Engineering Manager, and served as Director of Engineering for six years at the Camas Technical Center with west coast responsibilty. He became Vice President of engineering with global responsibility in 1994 and Vice President of capital planning in 1997. He was also founder and past chairman of the Northwest Construction Consumer Council.
