Biography

In addition to his PhD from OSU, Richard Stout also received a bachelor’s degree and an MAT in Physical Sciences from Washington State University. He worked 40 years in the nuclear industry in the areas of health physics, nuclear materials safeguards, reactor core physics, nuclear reactor safety engineering, nuclear fuels, and engineering services and marketing. Stout served as an executive in the U.S. and Asia with Siemens Power Corporation and its predecessor, Exxon Nuclear Corporation.

His last assignment was as president of Siemens Power KK in Japan from 1996–2003, with additional responsibilities for Taiwan, Korea, and China. In 2001, Framatome and Siemens merged and operated in Japan as Framatome ANP KK, for which Stout served as president until his retirement in 2003.

He currently works as a consultant and is president of the Eastern Washington Section of the American Nuclear Society. He is also as a member of the OSU School of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Health Physics Advisory Board and an advisor to the Leadership Pipeline Program. He was inducted into OSU’s Academy of Distinguished Engineers in 1998.
