Biography

Richard Braatz received his MS (1991) and PhD (1993) from the California Institute of Technology. After a postdoctoral year at Du Pont, he joined the faculty in Chemical Engineering at the University of Illinois (Urbana Champaign) in 1994 and is now an Associate Professor. His teaching and research are in the field of advanced process control. Dr. Braatz received the Hertz Foundation Doctoral Thesis Prize in 1993, DuPont Young Faculty Award in 1995, UIUC School of Chemical Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award in 1997, Xerox Award for Faculty Research in 1999, and the Dean's Teaching Fellowship in 2000. He is the 2000 recipient of the Donald P. Eckman Award from the American Automatic Control Council.
