
Rex Smith served as vice president for MSN® Operations prior to his retirement in 2002.
He was responsible for developing, hosting, and supporting the operational infrastructure and global network for all the Web properties of the MSN network of Internet services. Previously, Rex was general manager of MSN Operations. He joined Microsoft as general manager of the MSN Hotmail operation upon the company’s acquisition of Hotmail in January 1998.
Rex’s history at Hotmail is substantial. He was the fifth person to join the company and served as chairman of the board and chief operating officer. He was instrumental in developing the infrastructure, operations, and network of Hotmail. Before Hotmail, Rex worked with various companies including FutureTel, Hewlett-Packard Co., Apple Computer Inc., and Sun Micosystems. He remains active with several start-up companies.
