
Ralph Gens completed his BS at OSU after serving in the US Army as a Sergeant from 1943 to 1946. He went on to a highly successful career with Bonneville Power Administration. He joined BPA in 1948 and rose from an entry level engineer through the positions of Chief of Systems Engineering, and Manager of Planning, Research and Development to become the Assistant Administrator for Engineering in 1977. He was the recipient of numerous recognition and honors including: Distinguished Service Award of US Department of Interior, 1973 and 1978; Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, 1969; US Vice-President and US National Advisor for CIGRE (the international engineering institute for high-voltage engineering) in 1979-80; IEEE Harbishaw Award and Centennial Award, both in 1984; Chairman of the Energy Research Advisory Board, US Department of Energy, 1984-85. Mr. Gens was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1983.
