Biography

Following graduation from OSU, Perry Pratt did graduate studies and was an instructor at New York University. In 1939 he joined Pratt & Whitney Aircraft division of the United Aircraft Corporation as a test engineer. He worked on development of gas turbine engines and was granted patents for induction apparatus and ignition controls. He progressed to the position of Engineering Manager in 1957, and in 1958 he was elected Vice President and Chief Scientist of the Corporation.

He served on numerous government advisory boards. Mr. Pratt received many honors and awards, including the 1969 Goddard Award, the ASME Gas Turbine Division Award in 1967, and the George Westinghouse ASME Gold Medal Award in 1956. He was elected to membership of the National Academy of Engineering in 1967. Mr. Pratt passed away in 1981.
