Biography

Rear Admiral Michael Sharp retired from the U.S. Navy in 2004 after 30 years of service. As vice commander of SPAWAR, he was responsible for development, acquisition, and life cycle management of command, control, commissions, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems for the Navy and select Marine Corps and joint service programs.

He was designated chief engineer for the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Research, Development and Acquisition as an additional duty in May of 2003. In February of 2004, Secretary John Young appointed Sharp as acting deputy assistant secretary of the Navy as another additional duty.

During his naval career, Sharp earned the Legion of Merit with one Gold Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with three Gold Stars, the Navy Commendation Medal with two Gold Stars, and the Navy Achievement Medal with two Gold Stars. He is currently director of maritime advanced technology with Raytheon Integrated Defense systems near Providence, Rhode Island.
