Jay Mackie received his bachelor’s in chemical engineering in 1961. He has been an employee of CH2M HILL since 1970 following nine years of work for DuPont. Mackie was the first chemical engineer hired by CH2M HILL as an environmental process engineer. Throughout his career he has been a leader in development and application of new technology, resulting in his recognition as one of the first CH2M HILL Technology Fellows. Mackie has provided leadership for projects on at least five continents and lived for three years in Tokyo, serving as CH2M HILL area manager for Korea and Japan. Among other technical contributions, Mackie developed environmental management systems that enabled implementation of the coal gasification complex in North Dakota, oversaw development of technology for destruction of the U.S. nerve agent stockpile, and contributed to the reuse of municipal wastewater to generate steam for enhanced oil recovery in Alberta.
