Biography

Jatila Ranasinghe earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Sri Lanka before completing his MS and PhD at OSU. He is currently the manager of the Accessory Systems Engineering, New Product Introduction team in the Power Systems Division of the General Electric Company. When Ranasinghe joined GE in 1995, he worked on the design of the first steam-cooled gas turbine combined-cycle power plant, the first combined-cycle power plant to achieve 60 percent or greater thermal efficiency.

Subsequently, he took leadership positions in the GE combined Cycle Engineering Team and the Power System Chief Engineers Office. Prior to joining GE, he worked for six years in the oil and gas industry. He currently holds 15 U.S. patents and, in February 2004, received the GE Energy Award for the patent with highest intellectual property value.
