Biography

EECSJim Johnson is a 1973 electrical engineering graduate of the University of California-Berkeley, and earned a master's in computer science in 1974 from Stanford. He recently retired as Oregon site manager for Intel. A strong advocate of investment in education at both the K-12 and higher education levels, Johnson has embraced and supported the OSU College of Engineering's Top-25 Drive and serves on the governor-appointed Engineering and Technology Industry Council, a major driving force for gathering public and private support of engineering and computer science education in Oregon. In an effort to keep top Oregon high school students in the state, Johnson helped create the Intel Scholars Program, which annually selects 18 Oregon high school seniors bound for engineering or computer science degrees to receive renewable $2,500 scholarships. With his wife Nancy, he established the Jim and Nancy Johnson Engineering Scholarships here at Oregon State University. Johnson received Oregon State University's Distinguished Service Award in 2001. He is chair of the College of Engineering Advisory Board.
