
After receiving his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from OSU, Gayle Harley began working as a resident inspector at OBEC Consulting Engineers, a firm that works to provide bridge, civil and roadway transportation expertise. After twenty years of experience, he became the chief construction engineer and then president of OBEC, a position that requires contract negotiation, quality assurance review, and project management. Under his leadership, OBEC grew from 50 employees in two offices to 115 employees in four offices.
Most recently, ODOT selected OBEC as the prime consultant for the $150 million Willamette River Bridge replacement project in Eugene, Oregon the largest single project in the OTIA Bridge Program,. Harley is involved in the American Council of Engineering Companies of Oregon and will take the office of president in June 2009. He is a board member with the MECOP/CECOP internship program at OSU and has provided many internships to OSU students.
