Ecological Engineers integrate human activities into the natural environment through sustainable design. A collaboration between the colleges of Engineering and Agriculture, the Ecological Engineering bachelor's degree is the first of its kind nationally. Combining engineering with ecological principles offers an enriching, multidisciplinary experience. Employment of ecological and agricultural engineers is projected to grow 8% from 2023 to 2033 (source: Bureau of Labor Statistics). Here are a few examples of projects you might work on:
- Work with firms to reduce environmental impacts of major projects.
- Lead efforts to restore riparian and wetland habitats, and rehabilitate former industrial sites.
- Advise environmental or transportation agencies at various government levels.
- Develop green infrastructure solutions like green roofs, permeable pavements, and urban forests.
