Dates and Deadlines

  • The summer 2024 program dates are Monday June 24 through Friday August 30. Travel to site will occur before the start date and travel home will occur after the end date.
  • The application review will begin on February 7, 2024, with the first round of accepted students contacted by March 6, 2024, at the latest.
  • Acceptance deadline for students is March 13, 2024. Second-round offers (if necessary) and declines will go out beginning at this time.
  • We can make accommodations for students with academic conflicts to start earlier or later, but arrangements must be made in advance and approved by both your project mentor and the REU Site leads.

Housing and Dining

  • The REU program offers student housing to program participants at the Oregon State Corvallis campus. The program covers the cost of the housing; however, participants whose home permanent address are within a 30-mile radius of the Corvallis campus may not qualify for on-campus housing. OSU Scholar Housing Website
  • Students can chose between a paid-for meal plan or an equivalent cash amount. The student housing includes kitchens and cookware/dishes. OSU Dining Options Website.

Travel

  • The REU program provides a $600 travel stipend, to help defray the costs of getting to and from Corvallis.

Stipend

  • Students will receive stipends in 3 disbursements: $1750 at the start of the program, $3500 on week 5, and the remaining $1750 at the end of the program, once the final project documentation has been approved.

Approximate Schedule for the Ten Weeks

  • We run a weekly, 2-hour seminar for all REU students. This seminar is a mix of informational lectures, hands-on/small group activities based on those lectures, and student project presentations.
  • Students have three opportunities to present their research project for peer evaluation: an initial project overview, a mid-project review, and a final, research-style presentation.
  • There is a structured activity based around each lecture; students will be provided with templates and examples to help them complete those activities.
