Through access to transformational international experiences, we encourage students to gain global awareness and intercultural competence. An international experience can provide you with necessary skills to work effectively with people from around the world and give you the opportunity to gain an international perspective of engineering. Employers in engineering, academia, non-profits, local, state, federal and international agencies value the skills and experiences gained by students who go abroad. Whether you want to spend a few weeks or a whole term, we have opportunities for you to consider.
OSU Global Opportunities
Students receive support from OSU GO’s student ambassadors and full-time study abroad advisors to navigate the process of planning and preparing to study or complete an internship abroad, with access to nearly 200 programs in more than 70 countries. If you plan on studying abroad as an engineering student, early planning is essential to matching courses abroad to the structured curriculum here at Oregon State. It is never too early to start planning. Freshmen who are interested in studying abroad should schedule an appointment with an OSUGO Ambassador to learn how to integrate their international experience into their academic plan, even if they don’t plan to go abroad until their 3rd, 4th, or 5th years.
Humanitarian Engineering
We encourage students driven by the desire to positively impact underserved communities to consider a minor in Humanitarian Engineering, Science, and Technology (HEST). Students develop knowledge and skills to help communities build and maintain access to basic needs both locally and abroad. Undergraduate opportunities in humanitarian engineering include research, projects, a minor, and various course offerings to take alone or within the minor.
Engineers without Borders
Our Engineers Without Borders Chapter welcomes students from all majors, allowing students to collaborate across disciplines. The club’s work currently focuses on bringing clean water to communities in need.
