Each summer, Oregon State University hosts a one-week program called Summer Experience in Science and Engineering for Youth (SESEY). The program attracts high school girls and minority students with an aptitude for math and science, and helps motivate them to explore the world of engineering as an educational and career goal.
BUILD Magazine announced the School of Civil and Construction Engineering (CCE) in Oregon State University’s College of Engineering as a winner of the 2017 Women in BUILD Awards.
In announcing the awards, BUILD Magazine describes the build industry as traditionally male dominated, but in recent years’ women have come to the forefront, working hard to create innovative projects.
This is the second year BUILD Magazine coordinated the Women in BUILD awards.
In early April 2016, Caitlyn Clark, a graduate student in mechanical engineering, learned that she had won a fellowship sponsored by Avangrid, a U.S. subsidiary of Iberdrola, a multinational Spanish electric utility. What she didn’t know was that the queen of Spain would hand her the award.
At the end of August, Caitlyn Clark, graduate student in mechanical engineering, will travel to Aalborg University in Denmark for ten months to conduct research and represent the United States through the Fulbright Program.
