Expertise and Interests

Biomolecular identification of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in human and wastewater samples. Interested in the identification of other pathogens, such as influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and properties of pathogens with potential impact to a community, such as new viral variants and the presence of antibiotic resistance genes. Facilitates relationships with wastewater facilities across Oregon and endeavors to implement best practices, and the inclusion of more facilities, in the Oregon wastewater surveillance program. Engages undergraduate students in the pursuit of this goal while also broadening their own educational experience.
