Biography

Wade Marcum is presently the Senior Associate Dean in the College of Engineering (CoE) and holds the Henry W. and Janice J. Schuette Professor in Nuclear Science of Engineering (NSE) at Oregon State University. He has been at OSU as a faculty member since 2010. He is an alumnus of Oregon State University having received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, along with Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Nuclear Engineering with a Graduate Minor in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to his present role he served as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs in CoE and Associate School Head in NSE.

He has taught courses spanning across both the undergraduate and graduate levels that are inclusive of introduction to engineering, thermal hydraulics, advanced thermal hydraulics, nuclear reactor operator training, nuclear systems design, nuclear reactor safety, among others.

His research group focuses on nuclear reactor safety and thermal hydraulic aspects related to nuclear technology and phenomena, reactor certification and qualification testing. His research group operates within an ASME NQA-1 compliant quality assurance program and has testified to support licensing of several nuclear plant designs as a part of the experimental data collected within this capacity. He is an author or co-author on more than 200 peer reviewed archival publications on nuclear reactor safety and thermal hydraulics, has advised or co-advised 55 graduate students, and holds two patents. He is a member of the American Nuclear Society, American Society of Mechanical Engineering, the American Society of Engineering Education, and serves on several Boards representing the Academy and Nuclear Industry.
