Celebrate Excellence Awards

In 2023 this award was created to recognize the outstanding performance by academic advisor members whose contribution and service has been outstanding in supporting student success and development. This award celebrates the tremendous impact that academic advisors play in supporting student success.

This award was initiated in 1990 to honor Fred Burgess, past Dean of the College of Engineering. It is awarded annually to an outstanding senior in the College of Engineering, as judged by a variety of activities beyond just academic performance.

The award recognizes outstanding performance by a member of the Classified Service team. This is an excellent opportunity to commend a coworker for a job well done and provide the person with some well-deserved public recognition. Eligibility for this award extends to all classified office and administrative personnel as well as accounting and technical personnel.

This award recognizes a member of the engineering faculty for sustained, unusually significant and meritorious achievement in collaborative research and scholarship. The award is for faculty in the College of Engineering who devote a significant amount of time to research.

This award recognizes a faculty member whose extraordinarily high impact innovations from research are in the process of being translated into transformative results that help promote economic development and social progress. This award specifically acknowledges impact achieved through engagement in commercialization of intellectual property, patents etc. OSU Advantage will be engaged in the selection of this award.

The College of Engineering Faculty Mentoring Award is sponsored by the Dean's Office. This award recognizes a member of the engineering faculty for exemplary and impactful activities in the mentoring of COE faculty.

The College of Engineering Faculty Teaching Excellence Award is sponsored by the Dean's Office and was established to recognize unusually significant and meritorious achievement in teaching and in scholarship which enhances the effectiveness of instruction. This award will be presented annually to faculty who have demonstrated excellence in the delivery of curriculum at any level, and especially to those who have shown innovation or consistently high standards in curriculum development and delivery, as determined by their peers.

The College of Engineering Graduate Mentoring Award is sponsored by the Dean's Office and was established to recognize and encourage outstanding mentoring of graduate students by COE faculty members. Recipients have direct and significant impact and involvement with graduate students, outstanding commitment, and effectiveness as a mentor of graduate students, been innovative in mentoring, and have demonstrated unusual effort to provide consistent mentoring of graduate students during the course of their careers at OSU.

This award recognizes contributions made to the College of Engineering by an outstanding graduate student researcher. It was initiated in 1993 to reward efforts made beyond the level normally expected of a graduate student researcher.

This award recognizes contributions made to the College of Engineering by an outstanding graduate teaching assistant. It was initiated in 1993 to reward efforts made beyond the level normally expected of a graduate teaching assistant.

This award is established to recognize faculty, staff, and students for displaying an exceptional commitment to fostering an environment in which inclusion and community are understood, valued, respected, and appreciated. This award will be presented annually to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to creating a welcoming community in COE by implementing an initiative in the classroom, workplace, or College community that fosters relationships that advance inclusive excellence.

This award was established in 2025 to recognize the importance of mental health to each of our lives and for assisting the College of Engineering in being a healthy community. Preference will be given to those whose primary job is not in mental health, but who, through their efforts, assist the university in becoming a healthier place to study.

This award recognizes a member of the engineering faculty or staff for exemplary and impactful activities in the mentoring of engineering faculty, staff, or graduate students.

This award is sponsored by the Dean’s Office. This award recognizes a member of the engineering faculty for unusually significant and meritorious achievement in online teaching and student learning. The award is for faculty in the College of Engineering who devote a significant amount of time to teaching. This includes tenured and tenure-track faculty, and instructors.

In 1997, this award was created to recognize the outstanding performance by a faculty member whose contribution and service is not defined within the traditional categories of teaching and research. In 2017 this award was replaced by two new awards, one recognizing outstanding performance in organizational advancement, and the other recognizing outstanding performance in student advancement.
