After graduation, Tung Bui joined US West Communications and held a number of high-capacity design positions in the fiber-optic build-out for Oregon and southwest Washington. He received his Juris Doctorate from Lewis and Clark Law School in 1990 before joining the US West corporate team in Denver as the Director of Technology Planning. In 1994, in conjunction with representatives of Intel, Tektronix, and members of the OSU Electrical Engineer-ing faculty, he helped establish OSU's Modern Communications Center. In 1995, Tung joined Western Wireless as Director of Engineering and Operations to develop and promote the second generation cellular technology. He currently manages their Oregon and Hawaii VoiceStream wireless markets. Tung received the Distinguished Recent Alumni Award from the College of Engineering in 1995.
