JJ Cadiz received bachelor's degrees in computer science and speech communication in 1997 and now works as a program manager for Microsoft Research in Seattle, Washington. His job involves working on numerous strategic projects for Microsoft, such as studying the use of various new technologies to support communication and collaboration. Prior to his current position, Cadiz was a member of the Collaboration and Multimedia Systems Team at Microsoft Research, where his primary project was the design of Slideshow, a user interface for helping people stay aware of important information without being distracting or becoming overwhelmed. Prior to joining Microsoft Research, he received a master's in human computer interaction from Carnegie Mellon University. A native of Gresham, Oregon, Cadiz has published widely in the field of awareness and team coordination and volunteers as head coach of the Lakeside School speech and debate team in the Seattle area.
