George Reed graduated with a degree in agricultural engineering from OSU in 1968. He began his career with Del Monte Foods in 1969. He moved rapidly through the ranks, and by 1980 he was promoted to project engineer at the research and development center and later became senior project engineer at Del Monte Corporate Headquarters.

He retired in 2001 after more than 32 years of service. Throughout his career, George provided technical and professional support in engineered plant design/layout, new technology and redeployment of company assets to improve the cost, quality, and efficiency of the operating facilities. As senior project engineer, George managed the Fruit Consolidation Project, a plant with more than 25 million case annual production capacity and a budget of $60 million.
