Frank Biasca: Engineering Hall of Fame - 2006

After graduation, Frank Biasca joined Shell Oil Company to work in the California refineries. Initially, he was involved in the start-up and operation of wartime plants to produce toluene and aviation gasoline. He later gained experience in refinery operations. In 1959, he moved to the research and development arm of Shell, and was responsible for process engineering and design and operation of major refinery processes, including the development of a computer model used in the optimization of several refineries. Subsequently, he dealt with design and evaluation processes, both in house and proprietary, to manufacture ‘synthetic’ liquids and gases from tar sands, oil shale, and coal. He retired from Shell in 1982 and since has been affiliated with SFA Pacific, Inc., as a consultant.
