This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Development Engineer position for the College of Engineering at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Development Engineer will primarily reside at the O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory (HWRL). The position will provide technical support for testing structural specimens, geotechnical systems and specimens, and hydraulic structures, among other types of large- to full-scale engineering experiments.

The position will support the construction and installation of test specimens, reaction frames, hydraulic control systems, and instrumentation. They will be responsible for overseeing the safety training of laboratory users and ensuring safety practices are observed by users. The position will support the operation of research equipment and data acquisition systems. The position will support demobilization of projects, including specimen removal and disposal, as well as instrument recovery. They will collaborate in the development of new experimental protocols and must be able to work productively and safely with fellow staff, faculty, visiting researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, and industry clients. They must also have strong teamwork and communication skills, including both written and oral. The position requires creativity, troubleshooting, good judgment, and the ability to recognize and handle new and unique challenges presented by a wide array of different research projects. This is a hands-on position, and the work climate can be challenging including summer heat and winter cold in a non-air-conditioned space.

The O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory at Oregon State University is a leading center for research and education that hosts several experimental facilities in structural, coastal and ocean, geotechnical, and transportation engineering.

The College of Engineering (COE) is committed to building a community of faculty, students, and staff that is increasingly inclusive, collaborative, diverse, and centered on student success. This position will support COE’s efforts to broaden our capacity to advance student success across individual identities and facilitate the continuous improvement of teaching and learning in the College.
