Harish Pillay is the chief technology architect of Red Hat Asia Pacific Ltd. He has been promoting and championing the Internet since 1986 through activities with the Linux Users' Group (Singapore) (which he helped found in 1993 and is a past president), open source communities, and the Singapore Amateur Radio Transmitting Society. He oversees the Internet Special Interest Group of the Singapore Computer Society and has held various portfolios within the Society since 1991. He is also a long standing member of the IEEE and a founder member of the Internet Society. Prior to joining Red Hat Asia Pacific, he served in leadership positions in several Internet and technology-related companies, including CEO/CTA and founder of Maringo Tree Technologies, CTO of Inquisitive Mind and Director/CTO of Brokat Asia. Following the December 26th 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami he was mobilized as a reservist officer with the Singapore Civil Defense Force to assist for 10 days with a search and rescue operation at Banda Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia.
