Engineering Management - Ecampus Certificate

Replacing a previous option in engineering management, Mechanical Engineering graduate students may now choose to complete a concurrent Certificate in Engineering Management. Coursework used to fulfill the EM Certificate can usually be transferred and also used as elective courses on a graduate degree in mechanical engineering. While the Engineering Management certificate is designed as a fully online program, on-campus students may be able to substitute on-campus courses for some of the required coursework.

The EM Certificate requires these courses which are all offered online (18 credits)

    1. IE 582: Introduction to Management for Engineers and Scientists (4 credits)
    2. IE 571: Project Management in Engineering (3 credits)
    3. IE 581: Operations Management (4 credits)
    4. IE 583: Advanced Engineering Economic Analysis (4 credits)
    5. A pre-approved 3-4 credit elective course (The list of approved electives may be obtained from the EM program director.)

On-campus students approved to be in the EM Certificate program may be able to take two or three of their EM coursework on campus, as shown below (18 credits)

    1. On-campus course IE 570: Management Systems Engineering (4 credits) (in place of IE 582: Introduction to Management for Engineers and Scientists)
    2. IE 571: Project Management in Engineering (3 credits)
    3. On-campus course IE 563: Advanced Production Planning and Control (3 credits) (in place of IE 581: Operations Management)
    4. IE 583: Advanced Engineering Economic Analysis (4 credits)
    5. A pre-approved, on-campus, 4-credit elective course (The list of approved electives may be obtained from the EM program director.)

June Worley, director of OSU's Online Engineering Management Program must approve students to enter the Engineering Management program. It is highly recommended that approval be obtained early in a student's academic tenure to concurrently pursue the EM Certificate, as degrees (MEng, MS, PhD) and certificates are seperate programs which require the careful coordination of shared credits.
