Minor in IE

A Minor in Industrial Engineering is available to non-IE majors who have previously taken at least one course in each of the following preparatory areas: linear algebra, statistics, engineering economy and computer programming. Courses for the minor in IE may be taken 100% on campus or a combination of on campus and Ecampus.

The graduate minor in Industrial Engineering is comprised a minimum of 15 credits of graduate-level coursework for master’s students or 18 credits for doctoral students, distributed as follows:

1. Required Coursework

Minor in Industrial Engineering students must complete six credits of core coursework, as described below:

  • IE 552: Design of Industrial Experiments (3 credits)
  • IE 563: Advanced Production Planning and Control (3 credits)

2. Remaining Coursework

Minor in Industrial Engineering students may choose the remainder of their coursework from among any courses having an IE designator offered on campus. Other courses which may be available to IE Minors are courses with an MfgE designator and some of the Ecampus IE courses.

3. Coursework Notes

  • Students who take IE 563 may not also take IE 581.
  • Students may not take both IE 570 and IE 582.
  • Students planning to take more than one IE course through Ecampus must take IE 582.
  • Students who previously earned an IE degree from OSU may not take the graduate-level equivalent course of 4XX/5XX slash courses while in graduate school.
  • All IE minor courses on the Program of Study form must be approved by the student's minor professor and Head Advisor of MIME Graduate Programs, Lynn Paul.
  • If Engineering Management Ecampus courses other than IE 582 are on the program of study, approval must be granted by the Engineering Management program director.
