Bahman Abbasi has always been driven to help those in need and protect the environment. As an associate professor of mechanical engineering at OSU-Cascades, he’s doing this by innovating ways to bring clean water to the world.

Kyle Proctor had no agricultural background before pursuing his doctorate in water resources engineering at Oregon State, yet he soon found himself growing endless rows of plants beneath solar arrays at the university-operated Vegetable Research Farm.


A roadway setup known as the ‘bike box,’ a painted-off area for bicyclists at the front of an intersection, can help them stay safe at urban, signalized intersections, research by the College of Engineering indicates.

Measuring snowpack

In 2017, College of Engineering researchers launched Community Snow Observations. As of 2022, 3,500 community scientists have logged 29,000 snowpack observations that have fed computer models used to generate information for scientists, engineers, and land and watershed managers.
