Search Advocate Training Series - Session 1 (of 2) multiple offerings

Tuesday, April 25, 2017 - 08:30
The upcoming date less then 1 day.
, Monday, May 1, 2017 - 08:30
To event remaining 6 days
, Tuesday, June 13, 2017 - 08:30
To event remaining 49 days
, Thursday, June 15, 2017 - 08:30
To event remaining 51 days
Description:

Search Advocates are process experts who serve as external search committee members (not in their own departments/disciplines) to enhance the fairness, validity, and diversity of university search and selection efforts.  To become a search advocate, you must complete the two-part workshop series - please register separately for Session II.  Each session is 5.5 hours including working meals.  Topics include current research, theory, and practical strategies to help search committees test their thinking, address complex process concerns, improve search validity and fairness, understand/promote diversity, mitigate conflicts of interest, and anticipate/address a variety of other potential bias risks.

We recommend that the search advocate join the search committee to help develop/review/revise the position description and qualifications before the job is posted, and participate actively throughout the search and selection process until the search is closed out and the new appointee joins the hiring unit.

When you complete both sessions of the training, you will be eligible to join a search committee as search advocate for the next 12 months, should you so choose.  Completing the training does not require you to serve as a search advocate; you can decide whether to be active in the program at the end of the workshop, or any time afterwards.  To remain eligible beyond the first 12 months, you will be expected to engage in a modest continuing education program which will be explained in Session II.
