A Special Issue of Momentum

From the Editor

Dear Readers,

Ron Adams, dean of the College of Engineering, will soon take on the newly created role of Executive Associate Vice President for Research at Oregon State University. The university could not have made a better choice to help achieve its aspirations of becoming a leading 21st-century land grant institution by nurturing deeper relationships with industry.

Dean Ron AdamsDuring the 13 years of Ron's leadership, the College of Engineering has been transformed. He worked tirelessly to promote a culture of collaboration among faculty, students, staff, industry partners, and alumni, and that work is paying off. We will continue to pursue the vision he inspired: growing a dynamic experiential learning environment for our students, developing leadership-ready graduates, fostering a culture that encourages cross-disciplinary research, and partnering locally, regionally, nationally, and globally with industry, governments, and other educational institutions.

Under Ron's guidance, the college has enjoyed numerous phenomenal successes. These include, but are no means limited to: construction of the world-class Tsunami Wave Basin, invention of the world's first transparent transistors, formation of the Oregon Nanoscience and Technologies Institute, and creation of numerous local companies that based their business plans on faculty research. Ron also garnered support from alumni that resulted in Kelley Engineering Center and Kearney Hall.

Ron, on behalf of the college, thank you for sharing with us your vision, your passion, your integrity, and your strong commitment to excellence. Your legacy will be strongly felt as we continue to move forward and deliver the impact of a top-tier engineering program.

Sincerely,

Thuy T. Tran
Director of Marketing Communications
