Data Scientist (Intern)

The opportunity:

HERE (http://here.com) is a leader in navigation, mapping and location experiences. Built on 30 years of experience in cartography and drawing on more than 80,000 sources of data, HERE offers "Maps for Life" for more than 190 countries, voice guided navigation in 95 countries in more than 50 languages and live traffic information for 34 countries. As of December 2015, we are owned by a consortium of Audi, BMW, and Daimler, with a focus on creating and maintaining the world's most precise and detailed digital maps for enabling self-driving cars.

Team description:

Join a team of highly skilled data scientists and engineers using machine learning to automate and optimize mapping, navigation, and location intelligence across multiple products and departments. What you’ll do:
- With support from a seasoned mentor, you will own a data science project from start to finish

- Acquire, clean, and structure data for reporting, visualization, and predictive model development
- Write code to manipulate large scale data sets
- Build and evaluate predictive models
- Develop software prototypes related to HERE’s predictive analytics tools and infrastructure
- Report on and present findings to the team

Qualifications:

- Currently enrolled in MS/PhD or equivalent program in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Statistics or similarly technical and applied computation intensive program.
- Ability to take diverse, messy data at scale and prepare it for use in predictive modeling
- Proficiency with Linux/Unix command line and shell scripting.
- Proficiency writing code for statistical analysis, data manipulation, machine learning and visualization, using tools such as R, Matlab, Python, Pandas, Scikit-learn, etc.
- Proficiency with Tableau, MS-Excel or similar tools for data visualization and reporting.



Additional Preferred Experience:

- Experience with big data platforms such as Hadoop/Hive/Spark
- Proficiency with at least one compiled programming language such as Java/Scala/C/C++

- Commercial software development experience and experience with open source development tools (e.g., Git, SVN, Maven, Eclipse, etc.)
- Experience working with geospatial data and systems.

The position is full-time for 3 to 4 months, with potential full-time or part-time opportunity after the initial period.

Compensation: Depends on Experience (relocation not reimbursed for remote candidates).

Starts: May or June 2017.
