Dear OSU Undergraduates (first year, second year, and transfer students in their first year)
Mentor Summaries<http://undergraduate.oregonstate.edu/research-opportunities> for the URSA Engage<http://undergraduate.oregonstate.edu/research/ursa-engage> program are now available for review.
If you plan to apply for an URSA Engage award, please register for the URSA Engage Information Workshops<http://undergraduate.oregonstate.edu/research/ursa-engage-information-workshops>. See Action item below.
URSA Engage is designed to provide first and second year students, and transfer students in their first year at OSU, opportunities to pursue research or a creative activity under the guidance of an OSU mentor. Awardees are expected to spend an average of 5 hours a week for the 15-week duration of the project (mid-Winter 2017 to the end of Spring 2017). The program will provide $750 for the undergraduate URSA Engage awardees, and $250 in the form of development funds for mentors.
URSA Engage is designed to establish mentoring relationships for undergraduates early in their program at OSU. Thus, weekly interactions with mentors are required for URSA Engage projects.
Based on feedback from students and faculty, a hybrid of programs implemented the last two years will be offered in 2016-2017. Summaries of mentors’ research focus and examples of potential projects (rather than specific project information as was done before) will be posted on the URSA webpage by November 15, 2016. Undergraduates will need to review the Mentor Summaries, approach mentors whose research is of interest to them, discuss potential projects with the mentors, and then submit their applications - which will need to include an approval form signed by the mentor.

It was a challenge last year for early career students to find appropriate mentors. Hence, URSA Engage Information Workshops<http://undergraduate.oregonstate.edu/research/ursa-engage-information-workshops> are being organized for connecting eligible students with potential mentors, and to help students with the application process.

Action item: Registration is open – you are encouraged to register for the November 21 2016<http://oregonstate.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cCmNeNKe9PNDVRj> and/or January 19, 2017<http://oregonstate.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_6J7hFFO4zFyvmqp> workshops as soon as possible.
Undergraduate eligibility, the application process, and information sought on the online Application Form<https://oregonstate.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_3dxSJcQ0fqM4ZtH> are available at: http://undergraduate.oregonstate.edu/research/information-undergraduates
The deadline for undergraduates to submit the online Application Form<https://oregonstate.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_3dxSJcQ0fqM4ZtH> is January 31, 2017.
