Big Data Internship (SAP Precision Gaming) Purpose and Objectives
SAP Precision Gaming is a team at SAP Labs in Palo Alto which develops real-time analytical and
decision support solutions for the online and mobile game and gabling industries in the cloud. The solution is leveraging SAP’s market leading Real-time Data Platform (SAP HANA, Sybase Event stream Processing, Business Object Analytics Tools, SAP’s Predictive Analytics Library and R). The team is comprised of proven entrepreneurs and SAP veterans with deep market insight and strong technical skills.

We are looking for an intern to work on Big Data with a strong scientific background and hands- on experience in data mining, analytics and statistical methods.


Preferred student in MS or PhD program in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science or similar

Desired Skills and Work Experience

•    Natural curiosity and a passion for data
•    Interest in games and game design
•    Experience with “big data”
•    Broad and deep understanding of statistical methods and algorithms
•    Hands-on experience with R
•    Data analysis (SQL databases, stored procedures and business warehouse technologies)
•    Experience with modeling techniques for predictive analytics
•    Ability to quickly explore data and building prototypes
•    Experience with data visualization
•    Experienced in closely working with customers and partners
•    Self-motivated and able to work well with little supervision
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
•    Experience with monetization strategies for on-line games, virtual currencies and goods, micro transactions, pricing, billing and payment solutions, game analytics is a plus

Expectations and Tasks

•    Do whatever it takes to make our customers successful
•    Engage with customers and product management to provide best analytical solutions to the identified requirements
•    Explore game data
•    Develop / apply algorithms for analytical apps, e.g. player churn detection and prevention, conversion of free to paying players and increase of revenues from paying players
•    Build models for predictive analytics
•    Build customer-specific prototypes

•    Learn SAP HANA in-memory technology and its embedded analytical libraries, specifically
•    Implement HANA queries, statistical/analytical algorithms and build analytical applications
•    Document algorithms, models and implementation

What We Offer

Contract Type:        Internship, available immediately, 3 month minimum preferred
